We had a fairly laid back day. I was just glad that Katherine slept until 8 and Sam was home from work. That gave me all the Independence that I could ask for!
Our neighborhood Women's Club hosts a 4th of July picnic and parade every year. Between weather and traveling we have not been in a few years so we were glad to go this year. There were a lot of new faces and a lot of young families which was fun. Usually I bring down the average age by a good decade at the Women's Club events.
First daddy helped Katherine decorate her tricycle for the parade. We put red, white and blue streamers and some American flags on it. She had a lot of fun with the tape.
The fire truck came to lead off the parade. Katherine liked the big boots that were on the side. They are huge compared to her. (Don't you love her pigtails?)
You can see that behind the fire truck was quite the assortment of bikes, tricycles and wagons, many with mom or dad along side.
Katherine enjoyed her lap around the block waving to the spectators (mom).
We then enjoyed a hamburger cookout and pot luck. The food was great and we enjoyed the conversation with neighbors. We met one young couple who has only lived here for three weeks. Many could not believe that I was there with only 2 weeks left until my due date since it was so hot. But really, did any of you enjoy the near 100 degree weather this afternoon? I don't think you have to be pregnant to go home exhausted though I did take a nap.
We wanted to see fireworks but just could not get excited about fighting crowds at one of the bigger shows. Plus, since fireworks shows do not start until 9:30, it makes for a late night for a 2 year old. Sam read about a place near the lake where you have a view of downtown and several fireworks shows at once. Silly us thought that we would just show up about 9:20 and watch the 9:30 shows pretty much alone. WRONG! Apparently this is a well known spot because there were tons of people. It was a great vantage point though and perfect for watching fireworks with a toddler. There were no scary noises, you could see the lights and the crowds and traffic were not an issue. We were home by 10:10. The only drawback as you can see is that when you are far from the fireworks the photos are pretty pitiful.
