9 month Dr. visit

I took Caroline to Dr. H for her 9 month well visit and forgot to blog about it. As you can see, she was not a fan of getting her weight taken. What girl really is?

She did however love all of the crinkly paper that was on the table. That was a lot of fun!

And then there was that cute baby in the mirror to play with. She was a lot of fun too.

Here are her stats.
Weight 16 lb. 6 oz (20%) though I don't think that was right because they did not take off her full diaper and 2 weeks later she was 16 lb. 1 oz on the same scale and I don't think she actually lost weight.
Height 27.5 in. (50%)
Head 43.4 cm (30%)

Dr. H discovered that my very happy, content baby had another ear infection so that was the 3rd one. I hate that she has them but at least she does not seem too bothered by it.

People comment that she is so much bigger than Katherine was. I thought I would compare to Katherine's 9 month stats.
Height 27.72 in - 50%
Weight 15 lb. 7 oz. - 5%
Head 44.5 cm - 70%

So, Caroline is a little bigger. Considering that at 9 months 2 weeks she was 16 lb 1 oz she really was only about half a pound bigger. I find it funny how such a small amount can be a huge difference in percentage. We are just glad that regardless of their sizes they have both been very healthy.

3 year well visit

Today we went to the doctor for Katherine's 3 year well visit. We were supposed to go in 2 weeks but bumped it up to today because she kept saying her tummy hurt and she has a cough. With her birthday being this weekend I thought it was better to go in and be seen to make sure she is not getting sick before we have the festivities. Luckily she is OK and we have her well visit out of the way. This was her first big girl check up which means she did not have to get undressed to get weighed. She is lucky that she has not had to go to the doctor since her 2 year check up so it was like a new experience for her. She did great. She weighed 26 pounds 8 ounces which puts her off the charts at a <3%. She gained 4 pounds since last year is small. What else is new? When it was time to measure height, she stood against the wall rather than getting measured on the table. She was not as cooperative as it was hard to be still. Her height is 35.5 inches. The standing scale started at 35 inches so we barely made it. She is 20% for height. They no longer do head circumference but added blood pressure. Hers is 78/50.
Katherine did great with all that they did. She had her blood pressure taken, vision test, hearing test, looking in the eyes, ears, nose as well as a general once over. She got a clean bill of health. Since we went in at the last minute we saw the nurse practitioner who happens to be Kate's mommy from her class. I think that really helped her to be more at ease since she knew her doctor.

Dr Visit

Today we had Caroline's 6 month well visit, two weeks late. The Dr.'s office called this morning because my Dr. was sick so we ended up seeing one of the nurse practitioners instead. We started with the measuring. Caroline's head is 42 cm (30%)and she is 25.3 inches long (20%). Apparently she measured 25 inches last time so the nurse practitioner thought they must have measured incorrectly last time because she is growing in weight which is usually what stops if a baby is failing to grow.
Speaking of her weight, she weighed 14 pounds, 9.5 ounces (20%). She is still a little peanut.
Caroline has been coughing a lot and has had a lot of congestion for the past month. I have called several times and they always tell me it is no big deal. Nana currently has walking pneumonia so I was concerned about Caroline. Robyn (the NP) examined Caroline and listened to her chest for a long time. She does not have pneumonia. But, she does have a minor ear infection. I was shocked because even though Caroline has been congested, she has not seemed in pain at all. Does this look like a baby with an ear infection? Katherine has never had one so this is new territory for me.
As you can see, she loved the paper on the examining table. It is quite fun to play with and to eat. What I love in these photos is that if you look closely you can see that her hair is long enough to be messed up. It is sticking straight up in the back.

Still a small fry

We went to Katherine's 18 month check up last week. It was three months late due to our long trip. It made it pretty funny when they were asking me all the 18 month old developmental questions. My favorite was when they asked if she was saying at least 5 words other than mommy and daddy. I actually laughed out loud as I said she has well over 200 words and speaks in 2-3 word phrases.

We had a bit of a challenge getting Katherine's height measured. She did not want to lay on the table and be still. We even had baby show her what to do. So then we tried to measure her standing. I had a nurse and someone in training and the measurements ranged form 30-33 inches. I think that officially they wrote down 31.25 inches. She did better on the scale and stood still. She was 20.4 pounds, still at <3%. class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">consistent growth curve that follows the line on the chart, it is just below the lines.

Today Katherine is feeling a bit under the weather. They called me from MDO to tell me she had a fever. She was pretty lethargic the rest of the day and was somewhat content to sit in mommy's lap for the rest of the day. Surprisingly, being sick did not increase the number of times she nursed today. She has been holding steady at 2 times for the last few days. We are making progress. I have not nursed her before bed since Thanksgiving and I have only nursed her first thing in the morning a few times. I think that weaning will help her to start eating better and hopefully get larger. I need her to gain a little weight as we are having an impossible time finding pants that will stay on her skinny waist yet not be highwaters. Don't start suggesting adjustable waist pants to me either, they either are only available starting at size 24 months or they form a nice poof on her bum.
