First Day of Kindergarten

Wow! Katherine has started kindergarten and at my Alma matter too. It is hard to believe that she is old enough to be in big kid school. This was a big year for our family, choosing what school she would attend but the plus was that when it was time to drop her off for her first day, I was excited, not sad. Sure there are some sentimental and sad moments, mainly because I will miss some of our time together and the fact that I can't believe she is in kindergarten. But, she is ready and we chose to go to a half day program so I will still get to spend a lot of time with Katherine.

I love how cute she looks in that plaid. I spent 9 years of my life wearing that same plaid (though never in the cute jumper).

The whole family went to lunch and then to the school. Caroline was the most sad of us all. She is losing her best friend and playmate. She does not really know how to play on her own as she has always had Katherine.

Katherine did not want us to come in with her and she did not want to stop to take pictures. She was ready for kindergarten. In fact, she woke up early and was ready to get dressed long before we needed to be ready. We are in the afternoon class so we had plenty of time at home.

We walked in and she was ready to lead the way to her class. She knew right where to go.
Here is her wonderful teacher. She has been teaching at TCA for 21 years and is kind of a legend. She has been compared to Mrs. Frizzle from the Magic School Bus so Katherine is very excited.

She went right to her seat and started working. Her school has 5 kindergarten classes of full day and one teacher who does a morning and an afternoon class. Katherine's class is the smallest. There are 9 students, a teacher and a full time aid (who did not get captured on film somehow!).

There are 4 little girls. They played earlier this week and are going to be such sweet friends.
Poor Caroline is so sad she is not in Kindergarten.



After dropping off Katherine, Caroline and I met two other moms and the younger siblings at the mall to get to know one another and fill our time. The first few days are even shorter than normal due to people figuring out carpool. We live 30 minutes away so it does not make sense to go home.
After school we went with our good friends to Braum's for ice cream. You can tell that Katherine and Emma had a great day.

Back to School Tea Party

On the Monday before Katherine started kindergarten we went to have lunch at a tearoom with Nana. The girls dressed up in their Easter dresses and were so excited. They had great manners and a really lovely time.

Visit to Grammy's House

At the end of the summer we took one last weekend trip. This one was to Grammy and Grandad's house. We went to a nice park and fed the ducks and walked around.

Zoo

One of my best friends came in from out of town with her 2 kids and we went to the zoo. It is always a hit with the kids.

It is a lot of fun because Regina's kids Elizabeth and Zachary are almost the exact ages of my kids so they have a lot of fun.


There is a jeep where the front half is for the kids to play in, then there is a thick glass window and the back half is for the leopard to play in. You are really close!


I love that the giraffe viewing area puts you at their face level. They are so fascinating.

At the end of every zoo trip the kids hope to be rewarded with a carousel ride.

Pre-K Graduation

We had a sweet little class performance and graduation ceremony for Katherine's Pre-K. Her class had 16 students. They sang about 8 songs. It was so cute.

Each student's name was called and they went to get a certificate and necklace from their teachers.

We went back to the class where each student received their yearbook. The teachers collect pictures throughout the year and put them in a book.
There was a raffle to win the class quilt and we won!

First and Last

Well, another year of school is over. This year Caroline was in the Young Two's class and Katherine was in Pre-K. We have loved our little school. The teachers are wonderful and we have made so many great friends. I can't believe that Katherine has "graduated" from preschool and will be off to Kindergarten in the Fall. I am glad we still have 2 more years at our school with Caroline.
