Preschool rodeo

Katherine's preschool class had a rodeo. The kids all dressed up and had a fun morning of western themed activities. Katherine's group included Olivia, Ellie, Annie and Katherine. We did not have a cowboy hat but that did not stop Katherine from having creative head decor!

Cinderella

This weekend Katherine and I took Nana out for a special birthday activity. It is so hard to find anything that my parents need so we enjoy gifts that are experiences. I decided to surprise both Katherine and my mom with tickets to see Cinderella.

Of course Katherine was so excited when she found out what we were doing. She wore a beautiful fancy dress that Nana gave her for her birthday. The theater was full of little girls dressed in tutus, princess dresses and Easter dresses.
After the show we were able to get all of the actors to autograph our program. I remember doing that after going to children's theater productions as a child.

Katherine was quick to point out the differences between this Cinderella (Roger's and Hammerstein) and the "real" Cinderella (Disney). One of the main differences was that this Cinderella did not have yellow hair. We discussed that Disney did not actually write Cinderella. There are actually over 3000 versions of Cinderella from all over the world and the most recognized ones (other than Disney) are the versions of Charles Perault and the Brothers Grimm.
It was a lot of fun and I look forward to taking the girls to see many more productions.

Easter

After church we went to my parents house to celebrate Easter.
The girls both wore beautiful smocked dresses. I was quite proud of the fact that the cost of their dresses, combined, was only $5! Katherine's dress was bought from a neighbor at a garage sale and Caroline's was handed down/borrowed from a friend. What a great deal for 2 beautiful, name brand dresses.

First we opened Easter Baskets. I am not big on candy or junk so I tried to make sure that the gifts in their baskets were useful. I also always want them to receive something spiritual. Katherine received a new Bible. We have loved our "Big Picture Story Bible" but with reading one story each day for nap and another at bed time, we go through the book twice a month. I got her the "Jesus Storybook Bible" and so far have really enjoyed it.
Caroline's favorite part of her Easter basket was her Elmo slippers. Katherine received bunny slippers.
My parents have a great yard for an egg hunt. They actually had to hunt for some of the eggs.

They were pretty yummy. We finished off the afternoon with lunch followed by naps and rest time. It was a wonderful day celebrating our risen Lord.

Egg Hunt

We took the girls to an egg hunt at the church where they go to school. We started with the petting zoo. Katherine loved petting all of the baby animals and Caroline just wanted to look.
There was a group of baby chicks that were dyed all different colors. Katherine held the pink one.

The "hunt" was really more of a "gather". There were probably 50 kids and 1000 eggs spread over a piece of grass that was about 30 feet by 100 feet. There were no hidden eggs, just piles of eggs on the grass.




We enjoyed a fun morning.

Pre-Easter festivities

Janna and her kids came over for a play date and so I planned a few Easter activities. We hunted eggs in the back yard. We also made resurrection rolls and talked through the passion week using resurrection eggs.





Later that night Katherine and I dyed eggs.
